Home

Home. A simple word; a loaded one. You can say it in a whisper; you can say it in a cry. Expressed in the voices of father and daughter, you can hear a visceral longing for an ideal place, a place never to be found again.
Imagine the shock, imagine the sadness when a daughter discovers her father’s work, the poetry he had never shared with anyone during the last two decades of his life. Six years after that moment of discovery, which happened in her childhood home while mourning for his passing, Uvi Poznansky presents a tender tribute: a collection of poems and prose, half of which is written by her, and half—by her father, the author, poet and artist Zeev Kachel. She has been translating his poems for nearly a year, with careful attention to rhyme and rhythm, in an effort to remain faithful to the spirit of his words.
Zeev’s writing is always autobiographical in nature; you can view it as an ongoing diary of his life. Uvi’s writing is rarely so, especially when it comes to her prose. She is a storyteller who delights in conjuring up various figments of her imagination, and fleshing them out on paper. She sees herself chasing her characters with a pen, in an attempt to see the world from their point of view, and to capture their voices. But in some of her poems, she offers you a rare glimpse into her most guarded, intensely private moments, yearning for Home.

The Apology

Only once in a writer’s lifetime does she have the chance to say “My first novel is being published.”

Welcome to “The Complete Tales from the Edge of the Woods”  by prize winning writer, Rachael Z. Ikins. (Icarus Aloft: YA Imprint SLM Bookworks, Selkirk, NY) 2013.

Enter the woodland of the wizard and come away from it changed for life.

The Apology
I will tame the dragon

for you and call her tumble,
from the sky. All purple-bronze
steaming skin and violet violet eyes.
I will whistle to her
as she soars over,
beckon her onto the roof-
peak; perch and gleam-tooth
and smiling claw. Peering down at me,
she creaks.
--and lie with you on her chest,
Wrapped in a fold of heated leather wing.
Listen to her rumble! warm and deep,
So far inside you almost cannot
hear her voice. We keep.

Challenges for a Writer

Last year ended on a really unhappy note, with the massacre at Sandy Hook. Stephen L. Wilson set up Indies In Action and together IIA put together a collection of poems and stories for a charity designed to try and help the families. Our book "Angels Cried" was picked up to be promoted on A&E TV and has been heavily blogged to the greater good, it was in the top 100 selling books over Christmas on Amazon.

With the New Year came a new meaning to my writing. Instead of struggling with a useless editor holding me back, I was approached via indiePENdents.org editor Julia Petrakis to help with book 2 of my Chronicles series, as book 1 was an award winner. Julia is very impressed with my progress as a writer in the short time we have been working as a team, and with the help of Autocrit I am catching up with my backlog of work. We are working very well and with Julia's help book 2 should be out in a week or two. Another big news item is that book 1 is now with the publishers in Maryland. In April I hope to send a story to a publisher here in the UK for their on line magazine at Black Library, this is the opening book in Mordhiem series.

Poems

This week I published a selection of my poems in an illustrated edition and can be bought at Lulu.com on the following address:
The first poem is from 1975, the last from 2012 and are all published before on my blog page. Some of them won prizes; like the “Keerberg Poezieprijs” ( Belgium ), “Antwerpen 2000” ( Belgium) and the “Black Bird” ( Milwaukee US)
All poems are original in Dutch and translated into English by myself. The illustrations are the originals, especially and digital developed for these poems while I still lived in Spain , between 2006 and 2011
I hope you can appreciate this. I made the book because a lot of people asked me to and the prize is the lowest I could agree with Lulu.com. It is a full color edition and carefully selected, why it was a lot of work putting the bundle together as I wanted it to become: a work of art as is!
Vriendelijke groeten
Sincerely
Joachim

Where Heaven Touches Earth

Poems in 2 languages: a Rare Find

Waar de hemel de aarde raakt,
langgerekte velden van sneeuw.
Dashwit lijkt die reuzenkracht
terwijl het langzaam smelt tot eeuwige vlekken.
Weggevaagd door oververhitting.
Verpulverd door veel te veel waskracht
die neerslaat, rivieren doet zwellen,
waar vloed vloeder wordt en wegwast
tot alles rein is,
daar waar de hemel de aarde raakt!

Where heaven touches earth,
elongated fields of snow.
Dash-white this giant power seems
while it slowly melts into eternal stains.
Pulverized by much too much wash power
That suppresses, rivers does swell,
where flood becomes flooder and washes away
until everything is clean,
there where heaven touches earth!
